IRB Required Online Education/Training

All investigators and research personnel conducting human subjects research under the auspices of UC Davis must undergo education and training on proper conduct involving research with human subjects.

In January 2010, the IRB Administration will fully implement a new online education and training module, the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative.  The current UC Davis tutorial will be phased out.  At this time, the new training module is available for immediate use during this transition/testing period.  All research personnel should be certified via the CITI program by December 31, 2010.  CITI certifications completed at other institutions will be honored here at UC Davis.

To complete the CITI training, select the CITI Course Link below and choose the University of California, Davis as your participating institution:

Please be advised that if you complete the old training (below), the certification will be accepted by the IRB Administration, but it will expire on December 31, 2010.  Alternatively, taking the CITI training (above) will be valid for 3 years.

Again, non-CITI certifications will expire on December 31, 2010 and appropriate CITI training will be required at that time.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE UC DAVIS TUTORIAL (TO BE PHASED OUT):

Before you begin, you MUST have a UC Davis Kerberos computing account.  If you do not have one, you may acquire one by going to https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi.

This online tutorial consists of six chapters, and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

You must complete the tutorial once you begin, as it does not allow you to pause and come back later to finish.  In addition, you must print your certificate prior to exiting your browser, as the IRB does not keep copies, and the system does not allow you to reprint your certificates.

For assistance or questions about this tutorial, please contact the IRB Administration at irbadmin@ucdmd.ucdavis.edu or 916-703-9151.

The tutorial content has been taken from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Institute of Health (NIH) Human Participant Protections Education for Research Teams.  “The mission of the NIH is to improve human health through biomedical and behavioral research.  Conducting research involving human participants is a necessary and important part of that mission.”  For more information, please see the NIH Website.
